Last day of school

I've gotten some emails from a few parents (from a couple different schools) asking if it's "normal" for kids to ditch the last day of school.  Some kids at some schools are actually being told by their teachers not to show.  I know in the younger grades they have parties, yearbook distribution and other things they don't want to miss, but the last day of high school w/ finals over, etc?  What do you think?

  1. My older kids (since graduated) usually went to school and stayed anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple hours - mostly social time but checked in with an occasional teacher.
This year my daughters math teacher (Geometry) is giving them a test that day - what an ass!

  2. That seems to be the pattern at Northgate. The first year, I made our older son go anyway, and he said most of the kids didn't show up. In one class, even the teacher didn't show up until half-way through the period. So yes, by high school at least, that seems to be the tradition.

  3. My child is going to school. If school is scheduled then I expect the students and the teachers to be there.

  4. CHS is having finals on the last day. So, yes, my child will be present.

  5. My kids (2) both attend Pine Hollow and both are skipping this entire week. It's either let them stay home and play video games or send them to school and let them be bored. All the real work was done last week.

  6. Some schools are giving out yearbooks on the last day which is a powerful incentive for some to show up. I tend to feel as some do here, school is scheduled they will go. Course some have finals this last week too so they have to go. The last day I'm not as concerned with...
