MDUSD is now seeking applicants for the district's Measure C bond oversight committee. Below are some excerpts and information from the PDF informational packet; Measure C Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee: Composition Role and Functions (link to packet here.)
The legal obligation for Mt. Diablo Unified School District to select and appoint participants to serve on a Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee resides in the California Education Code.
The oversight committee shall consist of at least seven (7) members to serve for a term of two (2) years without compensation and for no more than two (2) consecutive terms.
The oversight committee must include:
-One member who is active in a business organization representing the business community located within the school district.
-One member active in a senior citizens' organization
-One member who is the parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the school district
-One member who is both a parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the school district and active in a parent-teacher organization, and
-One member who is active in a bona fide taxpayers' organization.

I wouldn't want to be a parent on the committee. If you disagree with the board I imagine your kid pays for it, if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteActually I'm curious about what you mean? What would/could a board member do to your child? Do you think they could tell an administrator or teacher to treat your child unfairly? Really?
ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting to hear who is on the School Closure Committee. If they had closed four schools this year, they could have saved $6 million to use for salaries.
ReplyDeleteHow did you get $6 million for 6 schools. For an elementary there is a principal, manager, secretary, librarian, & 2 custodians. That doesn't add to $1 million per school.

ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, the savings is about $400,000 per school closed,not a million. Also, that committee is being formed (many applications received)and should have their first meeting in September with recommendations for closure to the BOE by December of this year or January 2011. Then these schools would close at the end of the school year in 2011. I also believe that they will be elementary schools but all MDUSD schools are on the list and all will be looked at and reviewed in the same manner.
The 1.5 million number came from Paul Strange at a community meeting about 18 months ago. The School Closure Committee was to have been formed by June 15th, according to the letter that was sent out with the applications.
