Special MDUSD Board Meeting Friday

There is a special board meeting scheduled for Friday at 5pm.

While it listed on the electronic school board : http://esbpublic.mdusd.k12.ca.us/ , it is not yet listed on the regular board agenda page or calendar . Presumably only a 24 hr notice is needed to post the agenda prior to the meeting for a 'special' board meeting so I would expect to see the agenda posted by Thursday afternoon.

Stay tuned. It is likely more principals will be appointed at this meeting.

  1. Just what we need; another rush job to appoint principals, and this time the appointments in question as to whether the Brown Act is followed with proper notice -- don't they want the public to have time to "google" them ? Can't the Board and Supt get anything right ? What is wrong with giving the 72 hour notice for next week ? Maybe the Supt should take less vacations during his first 5 months.
It is interesting that Sherry originally did say it needed to be posted by 5 pm on Wednesday and then has changed her tune. Maybe she will start reading the Government Code cited by Longtime Board Watcher. :-) How would you like to be a principal whose appointment was tainted by illegal notice ?

  2. while the meeting is listed the agenda is "not available for public viewing". why not? has nothing been learned? the rather strong implication is that the board is trying to hide something. is this the impression they want the public to have? this is just wrong.

  3. People they are trying to pull a fast one on us yet again. Is this even a legal meeting? Sherry said the agenda had to be posted by Wed night at 5pm.

Is the agenda in a secret location.

  4. I hope they do have the meeting. There are schools waiting to have their staff approved so they can get to work. It seems to be some people's job in life to just keep complaining, seeing conspiracy in every act. I have been a parent/employee in this district for many years. I would say that 98% of the people I have worked with are hardworking, dedicated people who are not trying to steal our money, but educate our children.

I agree that most are dedicated to the children and education.
But the issue is experienced educator administrators who can't follow the rules and are shooting from the hip. These are not new rules. These rules have been in place for years.
Do you want another fiasco like we had on July 1 ???
I imagine it is hard to find quality principals who want to work for Lawrence, who want to work for this school board, who want to work for lower wages than the neighboring districts, and who want to gamble their health benefits. Yet, call the DO today and next week and see how many administrators are spending district money away at out of town conferences; travel, hotel, meals, registration fees. Why do they want a Friday night meeting ? They have been out of town 'working' ! Please.
Post the agenda today and have a Board meeting on Monday. What is wrong with that ? Oh, more conferences next week, I'll bet.
    Stop the hemoraging !

  8. They don't call him "Tiger" because of his golfing ability.

  9. Perhaps they will announce the school secretaries cut back of hours, from 7 to 3.75 a day. Then our offices and children will really suffer, but at least the Gang of Five got their raises, thank goodness!!!!!

  10. I had previously posted but perhaps it was lost in the fray. They had panel style interviews a couple of weeks ago. Teachers and parents of some of the elementarybschools needing principals, were invited and did in fact, attend these interviews. They were able to rank the choices and have been asked for input following the meetings. My guess is two fold.... One, the selections tonight will not necessarily be a surprise to the schools involved and two, the agenda is to be posted this afternoon for the 24 hour notice.

My guess is that following the interviews and input they have vetted these candidates much better. I have to imagine they know a lot is at stake here.

  11. Is this meeting open to the public?

  12. It is a public meeting. Also. If you look at agendas even before Lawrence was here, appointments were left blank and just an agenda line item.

The only special meeting that was discussed was appointments.

  13. @mdusdparents -- While I agree with you that the candidates will have been "better" vetted, you don't seem to have an explanation for the two week delay. I believe that if they had made their selections before Wednesday at 5:00pm they would have put out the agenda as Sherry expected. So my guess is that they are still interviewing this week and it is doubtful at this last minute to include parents. Unfortunately, but I think tomorrow night will be a dog and pony show. You might need extra bandwidth for the blog this weekend.

  14. The suspense builds. Will the Board risk Principal appointments being illegal because not enough notice was given ? Will Lawrence name the principals in the Agenda to give the public its shot at vetting them before the meeting ? Or will the public learn the names of the principals at the meeting and we will have another Nugentgate ? When will Lawrence and the other four board members answer the Nugentgate questions: What did you know and when did you know it ?

  15. oops. that was my post

  16. 11:35, yes, all meetings are open to the public and you're welcome to speak during public comment time. Fill out a speaker card and let the board know what you're thinking. Don't let the "last minute" notice or "special meeting" status make you all be passive and just not go... just go if you have an issue. We've known about the meeting now for 48 hours before the meeting, we don't have agenda yet, but we know. So I hope for those with big concerns you are planning to go.

  17. Agenda posted.
    No names listed.
    No specific positions identified.
    Hmmm....will there be a Nugentgate II ???

  18. I guess we will be doing "google" searches after their meeting is adjourned. Two strikes your OUT in my book

  19. I'm holding out hope that there will be no nugentgate as you call it Dr. J. Personally, I believe a very hard lesson was learned. I guess time will tell if my confidence is well placed, or not.

Dr. J, will you be watching the meeting, with your google screen open?

  20. I have stated on MDUSD Parents most recent blog topic that school districts do not put the candidates names on the agenda. It is not just MDUSD who does this.

Personally I think this does not happen because of confidentiality to the candidate. Let's say I have been offered a job in San Ramon as a principal at a middle school. I am currently a principal at a middle school in Concord. My position in San Ramon is not official until it is approved by the board. If the name is listed on the agenda and the board does not approve it, word may/probably would get back to my school. I think this affects the right to employee confidentiality.

  21. Perhaps a auto dialer should be sent out to the parents of the effected schools. Unless you closely follow these blogs you are not in the know. Not everyone has the time to do such things. Just a suggestion!

  22. I think Sherry is right. It is a privacy issue. I will be shocked if the Superintendent did not vet these candidates. These will probably be the most vetted candidates ever to seek a job in MDUSD.

  23. 3:25. If it matters you make the time

  24. I disagree with Sherry about the privacy issue, because if it is not approved, it will be in the minutes and likely will get back to the school anyways. I think it has more to do with the Supt not being prepared, and still choosing candidates this week.

  25. It is a privacy issue - MDUSD has not listed the names on the agenda in the past nor has other districts. The board did not list Dr Nicolll or Dr Lawrence on the agenda when they were appointed.
