Former MDUSD Superintendent Gary McHenry begins his new job, and answers questions about his tenure at MDUSD

Certainly an interesting read. It seems that upon his appointment as the new Superintendent of the Inglewood School District, calls started to come in about his time at MDUSD. The Los Angeles Wave publication sat down and had a Question and Answer session with McHenry. You can read the full article HERE.

  1. Paul.... what??? What the heck? Wasn't he one of the board members that stood up publicly , in a public forum, and asked him to step down??????? Wow, interesting.. talk about taking the high road.

  2. I love how he takes responsibility for the schools in the district that have over 800 on the state tests. Where would Northgate be if it weren't for McHenry getting those test scores up? (just a bit of sarcasm there)

On the other hand, it looks like Inglewood has some real issues. . .Blessings to them all.

  3. Carissa, can't blame you for the sarcasm, there was a lot of material there! :) But I hope McHenry and Inglewood do well together, goodness knows the kids deserve it ! :)

  4. 8:15 I'm sure Paul cannot say anything negative directly about McHenry as part of the agreement that was made when he left.

  5. Carissa,
Northgate was one of only a few schools above 800 when the testing program began. Now, not only have many schools reached and exceeded that level, others that are not at 800 have nonetheless made steady and marked progress. Check the data in the annual report. It's easy to criticize MDUSD during these hard times, but some powerful teaching and learning has been happening in district schools over the past ten years thanks to programs and services for students and staff put in place during that time. The district has been experiencing budget cuts for about 8 years. It's been only in the past 18 months that the cuts have begun to have a significant impact on classroom programs.

  6. Paul doesn't need to criticize Gary McHenry any longer. He achieved the goal he set when he was first appointed to the Board: to be the man in charge.

  8. Good grief people. McHenry is gone. Let him do what he does for Inglewood and let them hope for the best.

Why are so many MDUSD people posting on the Wave's comment section? You need to let it go. Get a life and move on. There is nothing that he can do to/for us now.

I am glad he is gone, but I wish him much success in his new job.

  9. Ask Mr. McHenry about his teaching credential, or look it up.
